The millennial population will be, if not already, the primary workforce. Thus, sustaining the millennial population is vital to a municipality’s economic development. However, many millennials cannot yet purchase a single family home and therefore leave most suburban areas. Municipalities must facilitate land use planning that will prevent the millennial population from “fleeing” to more urban environments like New York City. As highlighted in the New York Law Journal article “Land Use and Planning: Preventing Flight of Millennials” , communities need to encourage transit oriented and downtown feel developments to attract the millennial population and workforce.
